I recently set up a network at my freinds house, with two computers running 2k Pro in two seperate bed rooms. My freind is sharing his cable connection with his brother through a 2nd NIC and an SMC hub. Both computers are constantly swamped with spam being sent through the Windows Messenger service. My freind and his brother use the "net send" command quite often, so is it possible to disable the messsenger service from outside sources, but let the two brothers still send messages? any help would be appreciated. thanks,
    Matt

You could install a firewall, be it software or hardware, on the PC that is connected to the cable modem. In fact, you should DEFINATELY have at least a software firewall on the PC that goes to the Internet.

It will automatically block the Netsend messages.

Well, i already have a firewall (Sygate) installed on the main PC, but I guess I forgot to forgot the messenger service or something. I could have sworn i had already done that. Whatever. Sygate will have the service listed as "Messenger" or something similar, right?
    thanks.

I don't use Sygate but I would think it should block it by default. Not sure what port it runs on either but you could find out and block that port.
