My Outlook Express will open but refuses to work. Just not responding. I tried to reinstall by changing the Registry value under Instaled Components to 0 and then install IE 6. My problem is that everything takes off but when I get to 39% complete the install appears to hang. Nothing happen until I kill it. Any thoughts. I have XP Home SP2.

edit note: I changed your title to one that describes the problem. "Outlook Express Problem" in the IE/OE section was a little too general to be useful. Newt

bmartin--You have not told us what version of Windows you run.
EDIT--WHOOPS!! I missed your indicating that you run XP SP2, so please ignore the sentences about Win98 below.
If XP or Me, what about System Restore to a date before the problem started?
If 98 and the problems started five days or less ago, reboot to an MS DOS and run scanreg /restore. Chose a date before the problem started|OK|Wait|Reboot.
Just idle thoughts. Did you install any new hard/software before the problem started? Have you just rebooted several times to see if that helps?

WJim, he has XP Home SP2. That's why I think a repair of OE/IE is in order.

Johanna I have tried most of the suggestions. I am still looking for a solution. The program is just hanging up the system and will not open. I thought a restore would do the trick, but no luck. It still hangs up no matter what date I select. It is using 100% of my CPU until I kill it. Since I can't get OE to open I can't really check anything about the settings in OE. My Reintall\ attempts stop when a certain % is complete. Can't get the reinstall to finish.

Well I am happen to report that my OE6 is working again. I have no ideal how or what cause it to start working, but what makes it even stranger is that I tried to reinstall by changing the Isinstalled valve to 0 and reinstalling OE6. When attempting it this time I was told I had a later version and the install would not continue. I started OE6 to see what would happen and it worked find. A few minutes later I restarted my computer. A message appeared tell me that OE6 had been removed from my system. Needless to say, but I was shocked. I then started OE6 to see what would happen and it started with no problems. I suspected that the 0 value in the registry caused the remove message to appear, so I changed the 0 back to 1. I started OE6 and it is still working. All I can say is I give up....

Glad you got it sorted! Thanks for posting back with your solution. If OE messes up again, be sure to post back.

If you can, use Tools> Maint.> store folder to put your dbx files on another partition or hard drive, just to protect your mail, if the problem reoccurs.

I think computers must be feminine... they do arbitrarily change their minds! :D :D
