    Hi,
I am trying to help a friend that has Windows 98 and can not connect to the Internet thru cable (Comcast). The computer was infested with Spyware stuff that I was able to manually remove as much as I could but every time I try to connect to Internet Explorer it will say on bottom left, "finding site" and just hang endlessly. When I connect my modem to it as I too have cable (Comcast) that is what I get and when my computer connects to the same modem all is well. I have checked the IP configuration and it's all zero's. When I switch it from PPP Adapter to the Ethernet connection all the boxes fill up but as soon as I back out, it loses everything...Very frustrating... Any assitance will be greatly appreciated...Thanks.

    UPDATE...

I tried doing a Microsoft Internet Explorer repair and that did not solve the problem either. The repair wizard did not report any corruption or problems which was good. So now I am wondering if the Ethernet card has gone south...
