Seashore had a similar problem posted in Windows 2000 / 2003.

    He had a Sony , I have a Dell.

The problem happened AFTER I downloaded the new "validation" from Microsoft and subsequent download of SP2 patch. All this I did from the recommendation of this newsletter.

    I have a Dell Inspiron 8200, XP Home, SP2 & patches.

I have tried everything. Restored to an earlier day, virus scan, full ad-aware scan, check disk, Registry First-Aid, etc. I did choose "stretch" on the display page.

Always on re-booting, the desk top starts to load to the full size of the monitor's screen, then quickly becomes very small appx 7 X 5 inches. My LCD screen is a 15 " screen.

Thanks for any help. This is a major problem.

    Hello Judy,

You mention a great deal except what the Screen rsolution is set at in the Settings tab.

To eliminate one possibilty, in Display Properties > Desktop > Cutomize Desktop bar > Web tab. Is the box checked? If so, uncheck.

    Regards - Charles

The box was/is unchecked, and my screen resolution is 800 X 600.

Charles, thanks for your reply and suggestion re: the display check boxes.

I decided to try updating the device driver since I did see that suggestion somwhere for a similar problem, and it worked !

I cannot figure how I "lost" the driver since the updated driver was loaded prior during an upgrade.

    Hope it stays this time.
