In the right-click menu a preferred action is always highlighted. Most of the time this is Open. I would like to change this in the menu for My Computer into Explorer. I tried to find it with regedit but was unsuccessful up till now. Does anyone know which registrykey(s) I have to change?

    Thanks,
    Tantrum

Tantrum--So far no response. Perhaps people do not understand the question. I do not, so I will show my ignorance.
I have never seen a right click menu with an option highlighted. If I right click on my My Computer the options include Open and Explore, not Explorer. And they are both in the same font and not highlighted. Are you right clicking something other than My Computer?

Thank you for correcting me, you're right. When I right-click My Computer Open is in bold (not highlighted) and Explore (not Explorer) is in standard font. When I doubleclick with the left mousebutton the standard action is to open My Computer. I would like to change this standard action in explore My Computer. Can you help me to find the registrykey?
    Thanks,
    Rob

Tantrum--I may be starting to understand, although on my PC right click Open and Explore are in the same font and boldness.
The only difference I see when clicking Open versus Explore is that when using Open the left panel opens in Search mode, whereas clicking Explore opens the left panel in Folders mode. (A left click on My Computer indeed opens it with the left panel in Search mode.) Are you seeing any other difference?
Now, that left panel is called the Explorer[/n] Bar. (Maybe you knew that when you referred to Explorer in your first post.) And the modes for the Explorer Bar are controlled by View|Explorer Bar. So with a couple of clicks you can change the left panel to what you want, regardless of how it opens.
I regret I do not know where to set this is in the Registry.
There is an outside chance that if you set up the Explorer Bar the way you want it, click on Tools|Folder Options|View tab|Apply to All Folders|Reboot, Open may open Explorer Bar in the mode you left it in.

Open My Computer, click tools>folder options>file types. In the list of files find "folder ". Click on it to highlight it and then click the advanced button. In the list of actions click on explore and then click the set default button.

Zander--I am really looking forward to hearing of Tantrum's results by doing that!! I am assuming the Default is that neither Open nor Explore is preferred.
And I am still curious what difference Tantrum sees clicking one versus the other, other than what the Explorer Bar looks like.

It should do the trick for Tantrum. It works for me anyway. As to the difference between the two, when you set explore as the default the left pane shows the same thing as windows explorer would except that it opens with my computer expanded and all of the drives showing instead of defaulting to documents and settings as windows explorer does. The right pane will show whatever it showed with open being the default but if you click the view menu and change it to details or one of the others and then close the window it should open in the last view you selected. When you do this it's pretty much the same look that windows explorer gives you except for the location it opens to.

Glad to hear it works for you and thanks for posting back. It's always nice to know if a suggestion worked or not. ;)
