Recovery disk

    I tried to recovery and format my computer which I have windows 98 and when I do it comes up 'not ready reading M drive 'abort failed What can I do. :confused:

    A little more information would help.

    What kind of computer (Dell, Compaq, HP, etc.)

    How are you attempting to use the recovery disk? Did you boot to the CD-Rom drive and follow the instructions?

    Hey thanks for replying I could use all the help I can get.
    I have a HP,I load the disk into the cd and let it run but it never makes it past this error

    You have to have the CD in the drive and when you boot up, if everything is set right, it should take you right to the CD and you just follow the onscreen instructions.

    the disk

    I have the disk I do insert it but this is were the error starts it says preparing for hp recovery goes blank for 5 seconds then the error says not ready reading M drive then right after that it says failure abort! and just sits there and does nothing then I will reboot the computer and start over and the same thing happens :confused:

    When it boots up does it go straight to the CD-Rom or does it go to into windows to your desktop?

    Clean the CD. Clean the CD drive. Scratched CD? Do other CD's work in the drive? Finger print could cause it to happen.

    :) Thank you I am up and running. all it took was to clean the CD. HOW TO FEEL LIKE A GOOF.THANKS AGAIN I MESSED WITH THIS FOR THREE DAYS.
