    RDOC2,

You are missing a step in the location of the Outgoing Server (SMTP) setting.

Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | now scroll to the bottom of the accounts and there you will find Outgoing Server (SMTP)

You can edit there, delete, or add an SMTP Server. See this Screen Shot.

You are 100% right. I see it now but I have a long list of newsgroups and I never got to the bottom. I went to Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings\Server Settings\advanced. Sorry for being short sighted.
Here is what I did. I copied the profiles from the computer on the network with the working smtp and transferred that profile to a folder on the non working smtp computer. Now I created a new profile and pointed it to the new folder with the profile from the other computer. Bingo! Everything is working at this point so keep your fingers crossed and time will tell. Most important I learned a lot in this case of the Mozilla blues. I don't know why that one profile didn't want to send mail and to my knowledge I did the new one exactly like I did the non working one. But that is computers. Thanks for all your help and for sharing your knowledge it is appreciated.

Ramona I went to your home page and it is fantastic and it is loaded with an unbelievable amount of knowledge!

Well it happened again and now I know why but how do I fix it? My signature on my outgoing mail contains an animation and that animation is what does two things. It stops the smtp from sending the mail and it I believe causes Mozilla to freeze and I have to press the reset button. Now none of that ever occurred with the older versions of Mozilla but it does in 1.7.3. I know I can stop sending the animation and all would be fine. Is there a way I can get Mozilla to allow my to use it with the animation?

    Hi RDOC2,

Glad that you found that SMTP listing, which does tend to get hidden when you have lots of Mail Accounts and Newsgroups.

Glad to see that all is well, and you can now receive Mail, on the troublesome PC. Something in the Profile was corrupt, since what you copied over is working. Most likely a new Profile would have fixed the problem, but what you did was no doubt easier.

I am always adding info to the Solutions page, as I see users posting the same problems over and over. I also like to keep up with the hacks, tips, etc., that I pick up on the Newsgroups, etc. Thanks for mentioning it! :)

    RDOC2,

Do you have plugins enabled in Advanced | Scripts and Plugins?

I don't even know where that is and it is my guess that it is whatever the default is. I haven't loaded any plugins? What are your suggestions? I did install the flash plugin now that I think of it.

    RDOC2,

Just trying to figure this out. I'm going to do the same thing on my version of 1.7.3 and see what happens...

Ok that is a good test but I am sure that it is causing my freezing and non working smtp. As soon as I remove the animation every works great. I am going to bed but I will check back with you tomorrow and see what you find. Also if I need to install any of the plugins let me know. Right now only the flash player plugin is installed. I went to the plugin manager and it says I have Mozilla 5.0 for windows and that I need Netscape for the plugins? Talk with you tomorrow.

    RDOC2,

I sent several emails with an animation in the signature, and I enabled plugins in Mail & NG, then disable the plugins in Mail & NG with no change. I did 8 emails and no freeze or crash. I run Windows 98SE...

Don't pay any attention to that. You don't need Netscape, and it is the most inept at pointing to the correct ones.

I bet you didn't miss me today. Ok here is my latest finding. I can send mail with no problem. However I can't forward mail. I can copy and paste and send the email that won't forward into a new email and than send it. Is this related to attachments?

    RDOC2,

Do the messages you can't forward have attachments?

No not always. Most of the time no. An example is that I can send myself an email and than after I get that email I try to forward it to myself and the mail starts to send and may go to 75 to 100% but than it fails.
However I can send attachments and forward in Outlook Express.

Westside I am in S. Jersey where are you? I am game for anything you want me to try. We can even do it with IM if you want. I am a 10 year vet at computers and this has me fooled. I just don't get it.

I have a question that I didn't want to ask but I am fustrated. Do you think that thunderbird would solve my problem? Can I download and install it with Mozilla 1.7.3 on my computer? Should I go and try one of Mozilla's earlier versions since I never had any problems with them? Can I have two different versions of Mozilla on my computer? Sorry for all the questions.

    RDOC2,

The problem is in your Profile. If your Profile is corrupt, then installing a different browser will be of little use. Since this is a different Profile, than the one you started with in this thread, try this:

Move your Sent Mail to a temporary folder. Close Mozilla & Quick Launch
Navigate to your Mail Account Folder, and delete both the sent and sent.msf files. Mozilla will rebuild them on restart.

Now can you forward a message?

I have to agree with you, that this is a tough one to figure out. The workarounds I have suggested work at least 99% of the time, with you being one of the exceptions....

    Hi,
I took an easier route and created a totally new profile and I can't forward? I didn't use any of my old folders for this it is a bear profile.

Ok here is what I did. I installed Thunderbird and dragged my old profile into it and that is the non forwarding profile. Thus far it works just fine with no problems and I can send attachments and even forward. Now my question is doesn't that say that the profile is good?

    RDOC2,

It definitely says that the Profile is good, and I am still scratching my head over the whole issue. Congratulations on fixing your own problem. This was indeed a unique experience.
