I have used the faxing feature that is built into Windows XP a couple of times and it seemed to work OK until last night. I have used it one time since upgrading to SP2 and it seemed to work OK then. However, this time, when I clicked on the "finish" button, I got a system error and the whole system shut down and rebooted. It happend two times last night. I could not ever get it to run. Has anyone else had problems with this feature? Thanks.

Firstly right click on My Computer icon > Properties > Advanced > Start up and Recovery > Settings and under System Failure untick Automatically Restart.

When the System fails the PC will stop with a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) which will generally have an error message and code which you can post here.

Also if you right click on My Computer icon > Manage > Event Viewer > Application there should be an error message relating to MS Fax. Double click to open and click on the icon below the up/down arrows to copy to the clipboard and then paste here. You should also look under System for red flagged errors when the m/c crashed.

I have edited your thread title to highlight your problem.

IMO your signature contravenes Posting Rules #7 - Advertising and I would ask you to remove it. Never a good idea to post an email address either - spammers' delight.

Thank you for the information. I will do what you suggest. Also, I apologize for my signature. I didn't realize it was inappropriate and I have removed it from appearing in any future posts.

Here is the only error message I can find that says it relates to the Fax Service.

wuauclt (2896) The database engine stopped.

wuauclt.exe - Windows Update AutoUpdate Client so I doubt that has anything to do with your fax problem.

Have you had any further problems with the fax like another System Error and a blue screen (BSOD)? - if so the Stop code may help towards a solution.

Best advice is to uninstall Windows Fax through Add/Remove Programs - Add/Remove Windows components, reboot and reinstall through the same route. You may need the XP CD.
