    Hi

I prefer to use the classic logon screen in windows XP, but on my computer, by default, the colours are set to the silver theme. I would like to change this to the blue xp style. Is this possible..?

    Thanks,

    Hi paddyslammer!

I don't know if I'm answering the right question but right-click on the empty screen > choose Properties > Appearance (?) > Color scheme (?) and You have three to choose from.

    Christer

(?) = uncertain translation from swedish

  3. to hide this advert.

    Perfect, Christer.

You can also get there through Control Panel> Display

Thanks for the reply, but i know how to change the colour scheme. The logon screen will not change by altering these settings.

It seems like a regedit may do the trick:

Start > Run > type: regedit and hit OK.

    Navigate to:

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ThemeManager

(I don't understand why a space is put in between Cur and rentVersion. It isn't there when I type it and shouldn't be there when You read it.)

    and locate the key:

    ColorName

and if it says "Metallic" then change it to "NormalColor" (all without the double quotes).

Thread carefully in the registry and if You don't have a recent system backup, like a Ghost Image, create a precautionary backup of the registry before editing.

    Christer

    Edited:

My source: Select theme and color scheme for welcome screen

    Thanks Christer!

The colour is now blue, although the text is black on the title bar (Don't know why). is there a way to change the text colour, or is it not possible (sorry)?

If it is not changeable, no worries, thanks for your help anyway

    Glad it worked for You!

I tried to change mine to Metallic since I have chosen Silver (or Grey) for the desktop but ...... ...... the welcome screen is still light blue.

My text is white and I have not found any way to change it.

It doesn't change the welcome screen, it only changes the 'Classic Logon'

Yes, I found that out too ...... ...... strange that the tweak refers to the welcome screen, though.

I was too trigger happy and missed this link to Change The XP Logon Screen Background Colour

    If You navigate to

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Colours

then You can change quite a few (all?) colors by changing the RGB code.
