Running Outlook Express 6 on two machines

Is it possible to import or export messages that have already been downloaded from one machine to another.? My client has pcs in 2 different
locations and wants to view downloaded messages on both on pcs.

These procedures don't apply. I want to know if it's possible to import messages (already downloaded from the server) residing in the Inbox from one pc to another pc at a different location.

The "from" pc would have to send their entire inbox.dbx file or they can do a File->Export and send the export file. You can "Import" from either.

Or, you could create a Message rule. When the "from" reads a mail the rule will/can automatically forward it.

When Outlook Express has received the messages, they are off the server and are stored locally on the harddisk. To the best of my knowledge, there is no possibility to leave a copy there (on the server) but I may be proven wrong.

What You can do, however cumbersome, is to set OE on both machines to not receive messages automatically. Forward the messages to Yourself without checking for new messages after that. When on the other machine, You will receive the forwarded messages.

Thanks for your replies. But the problem, as I see it, is that both machines have the same email account name so I don't see how your suggestions would solve the problem.

Well, if You try my suggestion ...... ;) ...... You might see the light.

I have actually done it that way myself when I wanted to put a message back on the server, enabling me to receive it once again.

My e-mail service is webbased and I can read my messages on any computer and when I came back home and opened OE, I received my own forwarded e-mail.

I would agree that it is too cumbersome to do on a regular basis but it does work.

To leave messages on the server:
OE>Tools>Accounts>Properties>Advanced tab> delivery and tick the boxes as desired.

    Johanna,
thanks for helping us out with an elegant solution that I didn't know about.

I had to highlight the e-mail account to get to the correct properties.

    Christer,
I have my email server set to delete messages when they are deleted from OE's deleted items, which empties automatically when I close OE. The next time OE is opened, the server is affected.

When I am checking my mail on the net, and this is usually while I'm on the road, I take the time to delete the spam directly. My ISP is relaxed about how many messages will be stored on the mail server, but some ISPs will start deleting anything older than so long, or if messages exceed a certain number, or size. If you are away for a week, and your ISP is deleting legit mail because it's "old" or "over the limit ", you have to resort to the forward method you described earlier.

    Johanna,

when I'm away from home, I check my mail via "webmail.bredband.net" but am not using Outlook Express. As long as I use the web based mail service, the messages stay on the server until I delete them. When I get home and open OE, everything that I left in webmail is received by OE.

Thanks for all the replies. Here's the answer - short & sweet - from another forum. Thought I'd share it here cuz I've gotten so much help here in the past.

View messages on multiple pcs with Outlook Express
This allows you to see what is in your Inbox on both pcs.
    With Outlook Express open::
    1. On the second toolbar click Tools>Accounts
    2. Highlight the mail account
    3. Click on Properties
    4. Click on the Advanced tab.
    5. Under Delivery at the bottom at the bottom of the menu, click Leave
    Copy on Server
    6. Click Remove from server when deleted from Deleted Items
    7. Click Apply>OK

NOTE: Since most users have limited space in their mailbox, it’s smart to delete the mail saved in both either Inboxes periodically after making sure that you have read and or saved the important mail in each box
