I'm working on a friends computer I'm trying to pin point the problem. So I took out the hard drive and put it in my system. When I turn the power on it show my gateway screen and then it just goes not a black screen with a blinking curser and nothing happens after that. I have tryed changing the jumper around but I'm not sure what the problem is. HELP. Thanks.

With the jumper settings you have now, how are the drives set up?

    Moving this to hardware.

If you've taken out the system HD from one system and put it into another, then you will have a bundle of problems as the two motherboards will be different, so consequently the OS probably won't even attempt to boot due to different HW setups and different drivers. Your gateway boot screen is part of the motherboard BIOS so this will show up OK. You'll need to work on it in the original PC, or reformat and start from scratch.

What was the original problem anyway?

im thinking i'm having the same problem as sincere

about a week ago or so i had problems with my pc (wouldn't boot),so i opted for the so called easy way out and got a new PSU,Mobo and case (to fit the new Mobo) as someone said it was probably a PSU or Mobo problem.

i've just installed it all and neither of my hard drives boot.my monitor just says 'going to sleep'.i've tried just using 1 HDD at a time but doesn't work.i guess this is due to the new Mobo as you say,but how am i meant to re-format my HDD if i can't even get into the system anyway?

Try clearing CMOS. I don't know why, but my kids' comp gets stuck with that left side blinking cursor sometimes, and resetting cmos fixes it everytime.

Most basic. Make sure that the ribbon csble is plugged into the hard drive correctly. In many it can be plugged in upside down and backwards. If this is done you can get all sorts of results. :)
