My Windows Media Player 9.0 wants to copy the download wav.files to a
removable device rather then the CD which we have been doing the past year.
It was working fine one night and the next morning it wouldn't get off the F drive.

I have gone through help files and reinstalled it and nothing changed. It has removable device listed in the device and I have not been able to remove it.Though it says you can. Maybe I didn't hold my mouth right. So I'm throughly stymied as to what to try next,

I went to Add/Remove and it warns me that removing Hot Fix, security patch, KB832353 may cause 16 other programs not to work properly. So I chickened out. I have ignored them in the past and deleted them and never had any problems but I guess I did some back up before I do it this time.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Trying to remove Media Player 9 warns you about removing a hot fix?

Have you read KB832353? Did you try the downloaded patch from that page?

I suppose it never hurts to run spyware and virus detectors just to be sure.
And Long shot. If no malware found, and no other solution works, install the latest WMP 10. You could try just installing it over WMP9.

    Wmp

Thank you gentlemen for your response.

I searched the Installation History for patches and the one they mentioned doesn't appear on the list. I'm quite sure it's a security patch by the numbering.

I have ran all of my spyware etc, but to no avail. I attempted to download WM10 over the top thinking it might do what reinstalling window did fixing most of it's problems. But another dud. Even reinstalled 9.0 and that didn't help either.

The only thing Hot Fix tells me on the error message is, " if KB832353 is removed these prgrams might not run properly" Then it gives me the list of 16 programs.

Included in the list are: Internet Explorer Q867801, which doesn't appear on the history list, four security patches installed in July, and Microsoft access components with a patch KB870669. These are the ones that concerns me. The others I can reinstall with no problem.

Do you suppose if I were to use the back-up disk that contains programs that were installed when I purchased the computer that WMP may be on there?

    Oscar--
Was that message saying that you could not uninstall the whole program or just one or more files? If the latter, just leave the few files.
    What are the 16 programs?
Also, what happened when you tried to install WMP 10? Any error messages?

Window Media wants to copy to F device.

Due to other problems with 7.1, could not uninstall it nor window media I took it to a shop and had them do it. They had to go through the Registry to uninstall them and 3 copies of Java that kept popping up in Add & Remove.

It seems to be running okay but am having a time setting Media 10 up to burn. But hope to get it set up this week. It didn't mention uninstalling any of the files
just they may not work properly if I uninstalled WMP. I'm assuming that is why the shop went into the registry to uninstall it. 7.2 didn't give any type of warning, it just wouldn't uninstall with the remove button in Add & Remove.

Thanks to all of you that responded to my posting. I appreciate it.
