Hello, I have a pretty weird problem here. I am visually impaired and when I'm on a PC I have to change the appearance scheme in Display Properties to high contrast black, the glare of a light-colored screen blinds me.

My dad has a Dell PC with Windows 98SE and an nVidia 256 32 MB card. When he first got the computer I had no problem changing the appearance scheme whenever I got on his computer but after a couple of years suddenly it would occasionally show the busy hourglass and freeze; the only thing that can be done after that is to reboot the computer.

Then eventually it was freezing every time I tried to change the appearance scheme. To be exact, in the Display Properties Appearance tab when I choose any scheme and click OK, the hourglass appears and stays that way and the appearance won't change.

Has anybody ever heard of this problem before? It seems strange that such a basic OS function malfunctions this way. The display adapter drivers are up to date according to the Dell website.

    Thanks,

    Robert

Poke around in Control Panel>Accessibility Options>Display tab to see if any settings there might be causing a problem with changing the color scheme.

Hi, NVidia are wizards at this. You get the latest drivers installed and to
some extent, they are not compatible with the card in the PC you bought
    say 6 months ago.
I hope you still have the CD that came with the Video card/PC.
If so, reinstall the drivers from it.
    regards
PS It's all to do with money, of course. They simply want you to buy a
    new card.

Uhh... yeah. OK. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 2 card and have had very little problems IF ANY. I have updated it once or twice in the whole 4 years I've owned my PC. Are you speaking from personal experience or just what you've heard someone say on a pc forum?

Hofner, look either on Dell's website or Nvidia's website and see if there is a newer version available for your specific card.
