I have windows 98 & my I.E. is so corrupted, I now use Netscape 7.2 without much ado.
Can I safely remove/uninstall I.E. and all its components?

IEradicator will get rid of IE 3 through 6 on Windows 98 (and a few others). You will not be able to use the Windows update site once IE's removed.

sviguy--You do not tell us the specific problems you are having. It may be possible to repair IE.
    1) Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|System Information|Tools|Internet Explorer Repair Tool|OK|Wait|Reboot.
    2) Use Iefix.exe

The problem you have/had sounds to me like a virus or trojan. But wanting to switch to Netscape is your business. But be aware that in Windows 98, IE is more than a browser. A lot of the Windows operating features are attached to IE. Microsoft did that intentionally to get around the anti-bundling agreement. Take out too much of IE and you will take out some of the OS.

sviguy--You will not be able to use Windows Update if you delete IE.
If indeed you have spyware, etc., have you tried scanning with spyware detectors such as AdAware or SpybotS&D? Do you run antivirus? Is its reference files up to date?
Have you looked at this post
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=31695

Did you try the fixes I mentioned in my earlier post?

In other words, do not give up so easily!!:)
