I have a Lan setup with 2 win98 machines and one WinXP machine that has a CD writer on it (the three are connected through a router). Is there a way to setup either windows98 machine to recognize the CD writer on the XP machine through the LAN i.e. to share the writer to allow creation of cds from win98 (say using Roxio's EASY Cd Creator)?

Right now Easy CD creator doesn't see the cd writer on the XP machine.

    thx,

    Hi

If you share the CD Writer as usual, you should be able to put a cd-r in the writer and drag the files from a folder to the cd writer share on the 98 machines. it should copy the files over, and on the XP machine, it should say you have files waiting to be written to CD. then click the balloon and select burn in the top left on the XP machine....

the only way i can think of....

    HTH,

how much data are you dragging accross?

    also,
    Try
    • check disk quota for Guest. on the XP machine, right click the hard drive, click the quota tab, and click quota entries...
Then make sure that if guest is in the list that their disk quota is unlimited, or very high....
    Or
    • untick the box 'enable quota management'

Yes, i know. i believe it stores the files on the hard drive and you might have limited disk quota for the guest..

Try sharing the CD Burning folder.. locate C:\Documents and Settings\[Your Username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft, then right click on the CD Burning folder and click sharing and security, and share it in the usual way. make sure 'allow network users to change my files' tick box is ticked.

Then follow my previous post to remove the disk quota....
