After many tries and crashes i finally got SP2 installed but when i tried to re-enable Zonealarm v4.54 it just crashed my system and then would keep crashing every time i signed in presumably when ZA was trying to load as part of the startup..
I have disabled the SP2 firewall but it does not seem to make any difference.
I also have Norton Systemworks 2004 pro installed and get a box popup asking about sharing services and advising me not to, could this be involved with the problem ?
Another item that may affect the system is that i am using a AMD Athlon 64 proccesor that i think supports Data Execution Prevention (DEP) mode could this be a factor
At the moment i have reverted back to the pre-install version of xp using a Ghost image i made before trying to install SP2 l ( Thank goodness )
any help would be welcome please.

I never tried that one. I use EZfirewall it is ZA4.5pro. I edited the boot.ini. I changed the noexecute=optin to noexecute=alwaysoff. That enabled me to leave the firewall on when I start WindowsSP2.

    Problem solved

    Hi Maggie
I have solved the problem by updating zonealarm to the latest version i think it was also tied in to the fact that i am using an Athlon 64 processor details Here

    regards alboy

EZArmor hasn't updated. I think since that workaround they are going to take their sweet time. I read quite a bit about the 64 bit and bios upgrades for the motherboard. Maybe your mobo manufacturer will deal with it for you. SP2 was in Beta forever and they leave it up to us to find workarounds and hacks.
