    Hi,
We installed an Adaptec USB 2.0 PCI Adapter Card. We then got a USB 2.0 Hub. When we plug the USB Hub into the Adapter Card it does not work. We do not get the green LED lights that indicate that it is working.
When we connect the USB Hub to the USB 1.1 port on our computer then the Hub works.
We believe the Adapter card is working OK because we have an External TDK USB 2.0 DVD dual format drive and it is working OK. One of the requirements of this drive is that it requires a USB 2.0 Port.

    Any Suggestions?
    Thanks.
The USB Hub is labeled as a 2.0.

I've had similar difficulties with my USB hub on 98SE. Particularly after I've unplugged it, used the laptop without it, then come back and plugged it in again.

It seems to be sensitive to the order of things. Sometimes I have to unplug the hub, reboot, then plug it in again. Or sometimes shut down, plug in the hub (with devices connected), then boot.

XP shouldn't be as sensitive as 98SE, but then again..... :D

    Hi Samson,
    Thanks for the reply.
We found a newer driver for our Adaptec USB 2 PCI card and installed it.
We then unplugged from the USB 1.1 port and plugged in to the USB 2 card.

The green led lights on the hub came on for a few seconds and then went out. We then replugged in to the USB 1.1 port and they did not light either.
We then plugged back in to the USB 2 card and waited for about a minute and the green lights came on again.

Everything seems to be working OK now. Time will tell.

    Thanks

Running a device through a USB hub requires power. Depending on the circumstances, the device itself may provide the power, but sometimes it is not enough. Then you have to use a USB hub that is "self-powered" (it plugs into an electric outlet, usually through an adapter).

    Hi Jim,
    Thanks for the reply.

We do have an A/C power supply with the USB hub.
