I overheard someone saying they use their cellphone for a wireless connection. That sounded interesting and I was curious on how that is accomplished?

    Yep.

    Verizon has it.
    Nextel is testing it.
    T Mobile has it.

PCMCIA Card for your laptop is the most common way I know of.

I have heard that AT&T has an option to go out through your phone via bluetooth for PDA or computer.

AllTel has it, and offers it Free to anyone who buys the connector wire (from Cell phone to Laptop). I use it all time, their is one drawback, I live in the back country of VA.. and unless you have a "major city" tower, one of the newer towers, the speeds are limited to 14.4. When I drive to Norfolk, which I do twice a week, I get upwards of 56k and beyond.

FutureDial also offers software to allow your cell phone to act as a modem and connect to your dial-up ISP. Transfer times are slow but in a pinch, I can do email and internet. All you need is a USB to cell phone cable.
