I just downloaded Firefox 1.0 from Major Geeks and installed it.
    So far no problems.

    SVEN,

Thanks! You do realize that this isn't the final release, and that the PR 1.0 means that it is the Preview Release. I don't believe the final 1.0 will be released until November of this year.

The download is also available here:

You are correct, Ramona. The only problem I ran into are with the darned extentions, which seem to become useless after each major updates. But 1.0pr1 is nice enough to disable the ententions, after the original crashed.

    Westside,

I agree that there is really no need for extensions. I don't care for them, for the most part anyway, so no big loss for me.

I haven't been too enthused about Firefox up to this Version, but it is definitely improving with each update. This is quite impressive for the first preview release.

    Hi Ramona,

I did not know that it was a Preview Release.
    It works just fine.
When the final version is out, I will upgrade.

question: when you all indicate that the "extensions" do not work, does that by any chance include the "add engines" functionality in the search feature?

also: does the 1.0 update provide any major benefits to make the upgrade worthwhile, and is there any significant advantage or disadvantage to skipping the "preview" and waiting for the "final "? (I guess I should have checked the other posts first before posing this question, so if it is answered elsewhere, don't bother to replicate the answer here, I will now go and browse the other posts...)

EDIT: a caution for others regarding "The download is also available here:
    http://207.200.85.49/pub/mozilla.or...eleases/0.10rc/ "

not being terrribly observant, I selected the download file ending in .gz, and then encountered the "windows cannot open this file" error, at which point I noticed that there is a "zip" and a "setup" download also...

I had only one extention, and 1.0rc1 disabled it for me, and, then bugged me until I uninstalled it. I don't know about any other extention. Some have worked, but have not. It is up to wait or not. I always use the unzipped file with anything so temporary, but looking at the rate that the Mozilla updates have come out, it may not be a bad idea to use an unzipped file for them, since they do not require installation.
