Note: split from another thread. Newt

I have the same problem on a computer that has been infected with virus and spyware. After fixing these problems everything seems to be working fine except for Windows Update.

BITS and WUAUSERV are on the list, but WUAUSERV is missing from the running services. Trying to register it again I get an error saying "Insert point for DLLregisterserver was not found" (freely translated from Norwegian)

Did a manual update to XP SP2, hoping it would fix the problem, but the problem is still there.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

Have looked at the problem some more.

If I register wuaueng.dll, automatic updates show up with the services.
I still can't download any updates, and once I do a restart automatic updates is marked 'deactivated'. One more restart and it is gone again.

I also noticed that I am only able to surg the internet for a few minutes before 'page can not be displayed' shows up and I have to do a restart to get on the net again.
While the problem with surfing is there I am still able to ping sites on the internet.

Hi rayves and welcome to the forum.

My first guess would be that you still have malware/virus problems on the PC. Not sure what tools you use but for now, get a copy of Hijackthis (see quicklinks in my signature), put it in a folder to itself (I like c:\hjt) and run it. After the scan finishes you will have the option to create a log file. Do that and when the log opens in notepad, paste the contents here.

I'm splitting your problem away from the original thread and moving it to the security section.
