New to WINXP and don't know all the ins and outs yet. I am having a problem with a file, or spyware, or whatever it is. It is called "tvm" in my msconfig and in my control panel. I have an updated version of Ad-aware 6.0 and and updated version of AOL Spyware. Used them both and it doesn't show up. I was told by an AOL tech. that is was a possible adware. So I deleted it from my control panel add/remove program files, but it won't go away in my msconfig. My question, is this an adware or not and if so, HOW do I get rid of it?

The display you are seeing in msconfig if the program has been removed is from a lingering registry entry. The msconfig item won't be doing anything and if it is unchecked, you shouldn't even be seeing any sort of startup error/warning message.

If you are comfortable editing the registry, you can remove that last trace by looking in the far right column of the Startup section of the msconfig window where the location should be listed then using regedit and removing that entry.

As to it being spyware or not, need more details like the name of the file so allow some research.

As far as a name, it is listed as tvm.exe

the internet says it has something to do with Travel Velocity. But we haven't been on that site that we know of.

tvm.exe is part of some spyware thing that was dropped on you - without your asking for it or knowing about it probably. There are probably traces of it still on the PC and very likely some other things you don't want as well.

Get Hijackthis and create a folder for it - c:\hjt would be a good name to use - then unzip hijackthis to that folder. Run it, let it scan, click the button to create a log, and when the log opens in notepad, copy the entire contents to a reply here.

Remove these with HJT with all browser windows closed.

To remove the TVM, have HJT closed, then put a checkmark for it in Msconfig, Apply then OK. Then open HJT, do a scan and you will notice a new 04 entry with TVM in it, then use HJT to remove it.

Nope, not at all, and am not surprised by it. Some of these helpful sites are hit by DrDOS attacks, which knocks them offline. I'll update my link immediately.
