    My computer is Win98.

I have my son's WinXP reinstall disk and I was wondering if I could put that on my computer.

    Would that put on XP?

I have no clue about computers but at least I know enough to ask around before I do anything extreme.

Thanks for your answers in advance.

It would be illegal to install XP on a second pc.

Most reinstall cd's like from Dell for example will ONLY install on another Dell.

Highly recommended a 2nd Operating system be installed on a seperate partition or drive.

As Steve is mentioning, the license for Windows only allows it to be installed to one computer at a time. The OEM license that come with manufactured computers is tied to that specific original computer. The license cannot be transferred to another computer.

As to whether or not that OEM Windows can be physically installed to another computer is anybody's guess. Sometimes they can. Sometimes they can't.

But Microsoft has a second trick: After installation, that copy of Windows has to be ACTIVATED (or authorized) to run past 30 days. This prevents a single copy of Windows from running on more than one machine.
