I understand the 137 GB limit on hard disk recognition.

 How do I get around this limit with this o.s.?

I just installed a 200 GB Seagate as a slave and would like to be able to partition all 200 GB of it. The problem I am encountering is that the accompanying software won't let it be recognized as larger than 137 GB even if I try to partition it first... (The M.B. is an Abit KR7-A 133)

Is there a way to bypass this internal limit, or do I have to resort to a hardware fix of some sort?

    Thanks for any information~

The only way I have found around the size limit thus far, is to install XP with SP1. XP without SP1 won't see it all either. However, a BIOS upgrade may do it.

It's really not so much an OS issue as it an BIOS issue. Last year when I installed my 200 GB IDE drive, my PC also had the same barrier. OS = W2K.

Most manufacturers will include a free ATA controller card with such a large hdd, if they did not supply you with one, you could either call them and ask for one or try flashing your BIOS.

However, couple of notes to add to flashing your BIOS:
    1) be sure that it comes from the manufacturer of your MB or BIOS chip
    2) if it doesnt' already have LBA48 ext. support, flashing it most likely won't help.
