    Thanks

Thanks Newt but I don't understand what the site is trying to tell me? I've looked at Microsofts website and all it really say's is if the error continues to replace the hard drive? It's a new hard drive and seems to be working ok? Is this one of those errors I should just ignore? I seem to get this error about once a day. If I shouldn't ignore it what would be the next thing to do?

    Thanks Again

It isn't a good error to ignore.

First step I'd suggest is to click on start -> run, key in cmd and OK. Then from the command prompt
    Code:
    chkdsk c: /r
and follow the prompts to let it run at next boot then reboot. When it finishes, take a look at the informational event 'winlogon' for details of what was found, what was fixed, and what (if anything) couldn't be fixed.

Post back with the contents of the winlogon event.

    Thanks For the Help Newt,
I hope this isn't a stupid question but what do you mean when you say "take a look at the informational event 'winlogon' for details of what was found" I don't know what your refering to here? Just the event viewer? The error comes and goes so I don't always see it in the event viewer. I thought by running chkdsk it would go away but it returns and there doesn't seem to be a pattern for it. One thing I can say is ever since I installed Windows XP on this computer I've noticed that I tend to have to chkdsk more often then when I had windows 2000 on it. Also it seems there is almost alway's errors on my hard drive when running scandisk. Could this be related to the way it is shutdown? I always let it shut itself off but I do get the other error "ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port address" everytime I boot up my computer. I tried changing the HAL and that got rid of the error but my computer would no longer shut down on it's own. So I guess what I'm thinkin is Could the ACPI error be a result of the way windows is shutting itself off and could it be causing the need to run chkdsk all the time which would explain the other error " An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation "

Just a thought but it seems like it could make sense.

    Thanks Again

When you run chkdsk with any of the options to fix problems (and the one I suggested is the most complete), the chdksk operation writes an event that shows up in the application event log like the one pictured. Here is the detail from that run of chkdsk /r on my PC.
I'm hoping that with the /r switch to force a complete scan including surface check, any major issues with your drive will be shown in the log file.

Not sure what The USA check value means. Never saw it before and can't serach up any useful information.

But basically it looks like the drive & files were in pretty good shape.

    Western Digital's Responce

 It appears that the drive may be defective and needs to be replaced. If your drive is under warranty, we have two warranty replacement options available to you, Advance RMA and Standard RMA. Both options are available online from our website. In an Advance RMA, we will ship you the replacement drive prior to receiving your defective drive. A credit/debit card is required to insure against the receipt your defective drive. If we do not receive your drive 30 days from the date the replacement drive was shipped, the fair market value of the replacement drive will be charged/debited to your credit/debit card. In a Standard RMA, we will ship you the replacement drive only after we have received your defective product. No credit/debit card is required in a Standard RMA.
