Lately, whenever I try to visit a secure site (such as internet banking) I get

"The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. "

I have tried adding these sights to my trusted zones but no luck.

Also, when I visit the site to get the SP2, i get a message that the site needs Activex controls and I need to adjust my settings. I tried that and I added the site to my trusted zones but still no luck.

    Any ideas out there?

Dump your temporary internet files and cookies.

Click on Start, click on run, key in
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
and click OK. Probably need your XP CD in the drive for this one.

Tom - the command is SFC (stand for System File Check) followed by a blank space and then /scannow which tells SFC to run and fix stuff.

It will repair or replace damaged or missing system files. Runs quickly and usually pretty silently so you have to check your event logs if you want details on which files it worked with. Usually not worth the effort to check though.

So the full contents that should go on the run line (and you can copy/paste this line below if you want) is
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
and then click the OK button.

Newt--You suggest having a look at the "Event Log ". I ran sfc /scannow a few days ago and was looking for such a log, but cannot find it. Where is it?
I have run a Search on variations of Event Log, and get several eventlog.dll files, but no event log. Of course I have Event Viewer and even see references to Event Log in it, but I cannot find Event Log or System Event Log.
