    Christer,
Yes I did move the TIF going via Internet Explorer > Tools > Options > General > Temporary internet Files - Settings - Move folder. :)

    I'm beginning to think that I am not alone after all with the way my TIF folders don't [appear] to be there in the 'active account'. In fact with the latest revelations from you Christer it would seem like you see almost exactly what I do [and don't more importantly]!! Perhaps my problems arise from badly written links in the email shots from Real.com. I went back to a 'spam' email from Real.com that started this all off for me, tried the link again and what do you know, it still fails to operate correctly, giving me this very error message;
"Clip Not Found "....C:\Documents and Settings\MyName\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\KPMJ0TE7\launch[1].ram

However, now when I go to Real.com and try reading the latest news reports and opening links to their visual caches, most of the time I can now see the recordings run in a window on my machine.

    Welshjim,
Hello, Any ideas you have are very welcome here... new blood and all. :)
    I think that there is a logical reason why you don't see any files in your TIF folder(s). I have two suggestions;
    1. You have a check in the box against the option in Internet Explorer > Tools > > Internet Options > Advanced > Empty Internet Explorer Files when browser is closed.
    2. Your files are maybe being stored by your browser under the folder C:\Documents and Settings\MyName\User Data\ or somewhere else even? Gotta say your TIF under C:\Temp folder is a bit of an odd one though.

    Keep 'em coming.
    Who..

I'm having the same problem. I've scanned the threads in this forum and couldn't see any mention of the,

    C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

being read only. Mine is and when I uncheck read only and apply it just defaults back to read only. I'm running Spybot, Adaware, Zonealarm and McAfee Virus software. Could it be a setting in one of these programmes.

Well don't know what happened. I just reinstalled my download software and I can download again. I still can't see or write to the TIF dir.

    Jim,

Yes, I am and it is the unly user added account.

That account appears only when You have made a start in Safe Mode, You always do that from the predefined Administrator account.

I have not yet made a start in Safe Mode on the current system but on a previous installation and that's when I noted that behaviour.

    Who ...,

I actually believe that I repeated myself ...... ;) ...... and that I made that remark earlier in the discussion too.

That's good news! Maybe You should drop them a mail and ask what they are up to.

    dishon,

The folder itself is read only but the files in it aren't. If they were, it wouldn't be possible to empty the TIF folder without complaints from Windows.

The reason for it being "read only" is that if it gets renamed ...... ...... Windows won't find it and will create a new one to its liking.

I don't know what You mean but I guess that You have tried to save a document in the TIF folder but it doesn't appear in the "Save" dialog (and neither does the History folder). If You have tried to copy or move a file to the TIF folder, the "paste" option is greyed out.

I guess it has to do with permissions, only the system has permissions to write to that folder. (Now, I'm getting knee deep, I don't know too much about permissions.)

By the way ...... ...... why would You want to do that?

    Christer

Who_am_i--Thanks for those good thoughts. I do not have the box checked to delete TIF on shutdown, but that really is not my problem (if I have one at all)
All my TIF are in C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files . And they stay there until I run a program to delete (like Windows own Delete Files in IE Tools|Internet Options|General tab).
To me the strange part, being accustomed to Win98, is that the Content.IE5 folders have only index.dat and/or desktop.ini files in them--no temporary type files at all and only in half the instances do they have the alphanumeric folders. And there is no Content.IE5 in the C:\Documents and Settings\MY Name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files folder (as there would have been in Win98. There seems no purpose to Content.IE5 on my WinXP Home PC.
The good news is that most things seem to work OK. Maybe let sleeping dogs lie.

    Welshjim,
I think I ought to have adopted your attitude right from the start as I'm nowhere further on really. I know a bit more about IE6 and Windows so that's a bonus I 'spose. Knowledge is a powerful tool, but ONLY IF one can use it correctly.
How you don't see your Content.IE5 folder and all it's expected contents is EXACTLY as I don't see mine. It was this, coupled with the machine's inability to access simple links to Real Networks video files that made me first suspect something was not as it should be. But now I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps it IS OK!!?? Maybe the link to the files I was trying to access were badly written?
Whatever, most of my internet experience is still good, so I'm going to adopt your laid back approach and "let sleeping dogs ".....
If anybody has the time and inclination to read this whole thread and actually arrives at a resolution, PLEASE CONTACT ME [and Welshjim} and perhaps others? with all due haste. Otherwise, I think I'm gonna give this a rest and accept what fate is throwing my way...
Thanks to EVERYBODY who has contributed here, I really have appreciated your views and experience. Till the next time then.
    Regards,
    Who.. :) :)
