Superflid--Favorites on Desktop?? What are these??
If you are talking about the C:\Windows\Favorites folder, I do not know why you cannot just copy it and install it on another PC. (I feel I have done it many times.)
If you are talking about your Favorites folder (and somehow have put it on your Desktop) here is a workaround until someone else can help. It does not result in the same format as Favorites, but if you click IE File|Import and Export you will get a Wizard that will allow you to create a Bookmark.htm file (from Favorites) that you can easily transfer to your laptop and will function as a Favorites file.

Superflid, There may be trickier ways to do this, but what works for me:
    Open Windows Explorer
Create new folder on C:\ (such as "copy favorites ")
    Then:
    Highlite "your" favorites folder
Press Ctlr + A (will highlite everything in that folder)
Press Ctlr + C (copy command)
Right click on your "new" folder and choose paste

copy your new folder to CD or copy the contents of the folder directly to your laptop "favorites" folder. Have had problems if I copy favorites folder to other machine, but if I copy contents of the folder everything works fine.

The error messages may be due to Windows version diff's and or IE vers diff's. What OS is on desktop? What OS is on laptop? Version of IE same on both machines?

Desktop is XP Pro and IE 6.0, laptop is Win 98 and IE 5.0.

I think you might have pointed out the problem!

Still need an answer though.

Superflid--Does your last post mean that neither suggestion so far has worked?
Just a month ago I transferred all my Favorites from a Win98 PC to a WinXP PC. However, both were running IE6. (And it may be that I did use TJ-IT's method instead of just copying the whole folder. I cannot remember now.)
If the difference in IE version is the problem, I wonder if it would matter if you now installed IE 6 on that laptop.

    Nothing worked so far.....

Tried exporting straight to the CD, got this message.

"You do not have permission to save in this directory. See the administrator to obtain permission.
Would you like to save in the My documents folder instead? "

I am the administrator, so I asked myself and said "Yes, of course old boy ".

    Still didn't work

Using XP Pro and IE 6.0

    Did that.
Copied contents as a HTML file, put that on a CD and transferred it to the laptop. The favorites are now all available as clickable links.

Many thanks for helping out a computer numpty.

Superflid --If you are saying that the Bookmarks.htm idea worked, I am glad to hear it. Thanks for posting back.
