edit note: you are new so I have just fixed the title for you but as stated in the posting rules, you have to use a 'meaningful title' and normally we will lock a thread whose title doesn't specify the problem. Newt

ok hi im new if u looked thanx , any help any can provide will be greatly appreciated.....ok here it goes it all started (well when i noticed it) when one day i went to burn a cd and to my horror i get an error code...

C00D11C9: Cannot copy files to recordable disc
Windows Media Player cannot copy the files to the recordable disc. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:
The CD-R or CD-RW drive is busy. Wait for the drive to complete its current operation, and then try again.
The CD-R or CD-RW drive is not compatible. Verify that the drive is connected properly and that you have installed the latest device drivers, and then try again.
To verify that the drive is compatible and to download the latest device drivers, see the Windows Hardware Compatibility List at the Microsoft Web site.

ive used all the same things as i have before succesfully burning cds so i tried several more times recieving the same code. i can play a cd in the thing or whatever else but i cant use it to copy any kind of file to a cd. so i figured maybe somebody was messing around so ill just do a restore but now my computer wont even let me do a system restore i checked out the cd-rw drivwe and it says its working properly. im using windows xp on an e-machine t1120 thought maybe i needed an update or something so i go to microsoft website looking for an update and i get another error code

    [Error number: 0x80240030]
Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page.

so as u see im having problems and im beggining to think it was the last update i got from microsoft or maybe avg or something deleted something out
i relize this a lot but any help would be greatfully appreciated .thanx for taking the time to read this all .

The first thing I would do if I were sitting in front of your computer is to do a system-wide cleanup.

    1. Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup, check everything but "Compress old files" (that's optional, I don't use it), tell it yes when it asks for confirmation and let it clean things up.

    2. If you don't already have them, download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot and/or Ad-Aware. Read the help files to familiarize yourself with how they work. I recommend you use them both since each tends to find things the other misses. Let them clean up any spyware found. If either asks to run on the next startup, tell one of them "yes" (either one but not both), reboot and let it scan again to get anything that was running during the first scan.

    3. Once rebooted, close all the programs running in the background...usually indicated by their icon in the system tray...except your anti-virus and your firewall.

    4. Go back to System Tools and run Disk Defragmenter. If you haven't defragged the harddrive before, it may take a while so be patient.

When defrag is finished, try another burn and see if things are working.

Please post back with the results. :)

thanx for looking , i did all u said to do and it did fix the problem with the microsoft updates page but i still cant burn cds. could there be something missing that the burner uses? when it first started doing it, it would buffer the songs and then when it went to copy them to disk the mp would freeze up for a minute then i would get the error . but now it doesnt even buffer it just freezes for a minute then the error pops up ask me to close or if i want more info. when i go to event viewer and click system and then on the error it says

Symbolic Name: IO_ERR_CONTROLLER_ERROR Message: The driver detected a controller error on %1

    Explanation
This problem is typically caused by a failing cable that connects the drive to the computer.

    User Action
    Replace the cable.
but i can use the drive for playing cds so why would it be a cable?

i also get this from the event viewer
Message: The device, %1, has a bad block.

    Explanation
The device has a bad block of memory, which Windows attempted to read. The data might be missing or corrupted.

    User Action
Do one or all of the following:

    Retry the operation.
    Clean the physical hard drive.
    Use newer media.

again thanx for the help u did more for me than the guys at microsoft! :)
