I have a Dell Latitude CPiD300XT with Win 98SE with Mozilla 1.7.2 and IE 5.5.
When I try to ope a PDF file in IE all works OK but in Mozilla [which I use the most] it seems to start and then nothing ever happens. At times it locks up and I can not close it down unless I ctrl-alt-delete and close Mozilla. In the settings I have tried checking the options Display in Web browser and check browser settings but seems to make no difference. I installed the update to the reader also. I can open a pdf file that is on my hard drive with no problem. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    quickshot,

Adobe support tells you to uninstall previous versions before installing an update. If you didn't uninstall the previous version or, even if you did, look for an older Acrobat Reader plugin nppdf32.dll, located in C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Plugins folder. It could be that the outdated plugin is causing the problem. If there, rename the plugin, and see if that helps.

There have also been reports on issues with Adobe Acrobat 6.0:
    http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/acroread.html
You don't mention the version of Adobe Acrobat you are using, but assume it is 6.0?

Look in Help | About Plug-ins
    What is shown there?

    Ramona,
I had just installed 6.0.2 and I did not uninstall the version 5.1.0. I do have the
nppdf32.dll in my Mozilla plugin folder. I have 4.78 Netscape also installed and have the plugin in the Netscape folder also. Perhaps I should uninstall bothe of the Adobe Readers and start over??? In the about plugin information in the 6.0.2 version there is a EWh32.api browser plugin and in version 5.1athere is:
    annots.api,Digsig.api,Escript.api,EWH32.api,Acrofill.api,hls.api,ImageViewer.api,
    Infusium.api,IA32.api,Movie.api,MSAA.api,reflow.api,search.api,PPKLite.api,
    sendmail.api,WEBpdf.api,Webbuy.api,Weblink.api.
    Hope this helps.

    quickshot,

Yes, starting over would be the best thing to do, since you installed over an older version. Uninstall both Versions, reboot the PC, then reinstall 6.02. You might also want to check out this Support Page on the Adobe site, for future reference:

    Ramona,
Thanks for the replies. I uninstalled both of the Adobe Reader programs, version 5 & 6 and reinstalled the Version 6 and did the update to 6.0.2 and all seems to be working OK now. How do you block Mozilla for picking up the Netscape plugins from 4.79--I renamed the Netscape folder so it would not pick up any of the old .dll files that are in it.

    quickshot,

    Add this script to about.config:

    Clear the Location Bar
    Enter/Type: about.config
Right click anywhere on the page and select: New | String
    Enter/Type: plugin.scan.4xPluginFolder
    Press "OK "
    Enter/Type this Value: false

Netscape will no long scan the HD for your 4.x Plugins.

    Ramona :)
