    Hi there,
Everytime I go to shut down the system I have this error message come up for a split second, it is so fast that I am unable to get the whole message. It says this application? and then dwwin.exe
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

    search

    You can look here http://www.aumha.org/a/shtdwnxpz.htm

You can do taskman & select the dmwin.exe/end task. Others say do a search for the thang & delete it! Others say if it's not running in taskman search & change exe to old save/ok:)

Well, I found my problem. WindowBlinds 3.3 (which I installed a few days ago) apparently doesn't want to shut down gracefully. If I unload it before I shut down, I don't get the dwwin error message.

    thx for feedback

Hey that's great! It does seem to be individual utilities that bring this error.

    YUP, I'm back again!!! LOL
No, we don't play that game, the only game I have installed is the Monster Truck Madness 2 game for my son which was installed around Christmas time and never has a problem with it. I did install a new driver for the Gravis Terminator Digital game controller, but didn't notice if the error message came up after that or not?? Could this be it? Should I uninstall it and do I really need the new driver? It worked perfectly fine before the download!
Thanks again Rancher (what a cool name, LOL)

    dwwin error

Look in C:\windows\system32 for the dwwin.exe. It should be 159kb and the date 8-23-2001. If it's changed then this in it'self is prolly the prob. As I posted eirlier, you can copy this to a disket, then if it's not running in taskman, rename it's extention .old save/exit and see what happens. If ya have to you can copy back to C:\windows\system32 at the command prompt:)

    Hello Rancher,
Sorry for not having replyed sooner!! Been sick and not much on the computer.
The dates are the same as you mentioned, nothings changed.
I guess I'll just have to ignore the error message that comes up everytime I shutdown the computer, unless you have other suggestions? This is so frusterating especially when I can't figure it out!!

My suggestion will not help with your current problem, however it could be helpful in the future. Before I install any software, drivers or hardware I create a restore point and name it "before installing such & such ". That way I know where to go back to if I have problems. Win XP creates restore points automatically but I want to know how far back to go if necessary. This is a great feature in XP.
You might try going back to the time prior to installing the drivers you refered to.

I wonder if you have this file in autoexec.bat, config.sys, system.ini 0r win.ini? If so remove. Also look in your INF folder & remove.:)

    Hello Rancher,
I did check to see if I had such files but there are none in my system. What can I do next!!?
I so truly appreciate all your help and support with this problem and past ones!! This is a wonderful Forum and will keep it in my favorites file for as long as I can.
    Thanks again,

Rancher, please disregard my previous reply!! I did a search for the files you suggested and this is what it gave me:
    For: system.ini (system, system.ini.backup)
    win.ini (win, win.ini.backup)
and for the other two nothing came up. Do I delete these completely and if so, will it give me different problems in the future, in other words, are these files needed for anything else on my system? Sorry for the ignorance, but I am learning by dealing with you!
    Lucy

    Hello mkbooth,
Thank-you very much for your suggestions re: system restore. I have gone back and tried restoring my system but the problem is still there and not sure when this whole thing started.
    Thanks again!

Hello Rancher, Thank you for replying. I did not get your response, one of my family members deleted it!! Sorry!!
Yes the dang thing still comes up, but I've uninstalled the gravis game controllers as you suggested and currently downloading the correct one from the sight you gave me. I will let you know once it's done if the error message is still there or not, hopefully it's GONE!! I will keep you posted and thanks again!!
No, I do not have EZ Cd creator from Roxio, it was nothing but a huge headache!!!! I've uninstalled it.
    Thanks for the info, Kevin!!
    :)
