    Hello again :D

I was in my BIOS settings looking around and found in CPU PnP setup that my DRAM Freq is set at 100 MHZ but can be set up to 133 MHZ and my cpu speed can be bumpped from 1100 to 1466 MHZ what is the benfit if any of this and would it hurt my system? I guess if I keep it up I'll either kill my system or learn something LOL or both!!!

    Regards,
    ~FIREDANCER~

I don't think you can tell the difference, and the computer may become unstable. Overclocking requires adjusting cpu voltages as well as the clock. Unless the increase is at least a factor of 10, a human is not supposed to be able to tell. That's been my experience, too.

Basically, overclocking increases performance but shortens component life. The cpu and memory both get hotter and will be damaged unless extra cooling is applied. You can buy special fans for cpus and heat spreaders for memory.

But with prices so low why not buy a new motherboard/cpu/memory combo and really boost your performance without risky overclocking? A major retailer last week was selling Soyo/AMD Sempron 2200 pair for $49.95. Add a 256MB DDR memory module for $29 and you have a much faster computer.

    Regards

Just one comment to add to Gaucherre's post. I heard recently that Soyo is going out of business - I would do the research on that before spending any sort of $$$ on a Soyo MB.
