    dobhar,

Well kinda I am feeling my machine is getting a bit out dated but is still new enough to keep updated. I am in the shopping phase of building a new machine as you can see here http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=32410 but still have some issues with a few things (understanding what kind of memory the new mobo will be able to use). I want to keep this machine and get it up to date as best I can. I ran some software called SiSoftware Sandra on it and I was told by the software that my machine needed to have the BIOS updated cus it was really old. If in fact you think that I should not attemp this then I wont. I am still trying to learn the internal working of my machine to become better knowledgable on keeping my hardware updated.

    Regards,

    ~FIREDANCER~

    Hi FireDancer!

A BIOS update can always go bad so ...... ...... if it works, don't fix it.

If You have an issue that is specifically fixed by a BIOS update, then do it.

If there are no problems I would say IGNORE that.

    I agree.

If you can not find the correct MB, I would FORGET IT.

If your present MB and BIOS are doing all the you request/require of them I would not call them outdated. Other than what MS or Sandra or some software says.

I have MBs that go WAY BACK before Win95 and I have not found anything they will not run yet. UNLESS MAYBE, if I tried to go with XP I might run into problems.

    Hello,

I did a little research at PcChips.com and found there archives on mobos and did not find my mobo on the amd socket A list but did find several links referring to it first link here shows my board.

    http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m810lr-v80.asp

And I found this post on there support site allthough not sure it is the same mobo there speaking of but I found the answer given to the question interesting.

    OK.

If you were to have that problem then I would maybe suggest an upgrade to the BIOS.

But unless you do have SPECIFIC problems related to the present BIOS I would suggest to LEAVE AS IS. And Update may fix one thing but may create another.

    Been there and done that.

I did a search and found PcChips clicked Downloads and then did a search for Product - AMD K7 and also for Discontinued Products - BIOS.

Your specific motherboard was not on any of the lists and therefore I adhere to my first advice ...... ...... don't fix it!

Suggest you replace the mobo with this one for $26.

Of course, check dimensions of your case.

As Christer and BB have said...if it ain't broke leave it. You've stated that your building a new box so I wouldn't worry about it.

At work, back before Y2k, I had to flash over 500 (Digital mfg.) puters to make them Y2K compliant. Let me tell you that was kinda hairy for the first few that I did. Luckily I only had only one pooch on me and even luckier there was a fix to unpooch and it worked.

Since then I've only flashed around 30 or so and that was also for a specific reason...not because the BIOS was an older version.
