Well Lady's and Gentlemen, here's the problem. Let's see where do I begin?

Ok here is what I am running. Have a ECS board K7S5A ver 1.0S, 40 gig, 768 megs of ram, XP 2000, running at 1660mhz, sis 32 mb video.

Now here is the story. I have 3 partitions w98, w2k, wxp, plus alittle more left over. I had the same setup on a 30 gig. So about 3 weeks ago, I installed another drive and formatted it the same way. Well yesterday morning I decided to finally install the 30 gig back into the system just to get at some files. Well set it up as my slave, so on and so forth, everything went well. Booted up just fine. Well after I did that, I had bought one of those so called smart panels I wanted to install. Installed it and everything was fine until I decided to diconnect the jumper for the fan speed, because I was getting more rpms without it. Temperature was my main concern anyway, so I just left the thermostats hooked up. Well I noticed the temp didn't seem quite right, compared to the MBM5 I had installed before I put this new drive in. So what I did was install MBM again to compare the temperatures. MBM was definitely showing a higher temp. But anyway, once I installed MBM I had to restart which it booted up just fine, then I opened it just to check some of the setting, and I don't really change anything, except how it displays the temp F or C. So anyway I shut the machine down to finish putting all of my cables back into place before I closed her up. Then after I booted back up I got this message and she wouldn't go any further. OH by the way, I was booting up into the W2K partition every time.

"The ACPI BIOS in this system is not fully compiant with the ACPI specification. Please read the AREADME.TXT for possible workarounds. You can also contact your system's manufacturer for an updated BIOS, or visit http://www.hardware-update.com to see if a new BIOS is available.

The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vender or visit http://www.hardware-update.com for an updated BIOS. If you are unable to obtain an updated BIOS or the latest BIOS supplied by your vendor is not ACPI compliant, you can turn off ACPI mode during text mode setup. To do this, simply press the F7 key when you are prompted to install storage drivers. The system will not notify you that the F7 key was pressed - it will silently disable ACPI and allow you to continue your installation. "

Needless to say, I tried all of this. Infact I wasn't even allowed on that hardware site.

Ok soo what I did next was tried to boot up into w98, then rec'd this message. "Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer. "

Then I tried the XP partition
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-Rom.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. "

Again, needless to say I tried this also, using the 4 boot disks from w2k, and after I loaded the last disk and it tells you that windows is going to start, I rec'd the message again about the BIOS compliancy issue.

So after all of this. I am wondering if MBM didn't have something to do with it. I also disconnected the sec hard drive and the smart panel, just for the hell of it. Now I am wondering if it didn't actually do something to my BIOS, but I do get all of my screens up to my os selection screen.

I have checked ECS website and can't seem to find a upgrade for my BIOS, I have a few image files that came with the mb cd, but they don't seem to work correctly. I think I am missing a rom file that they refer to, but can't seem to locate it anywhere.

Well hopefully I didn't leave to much out. The only thing I didn't do was what I drill into everyone else's head......back up, back up, back up. lol But at the sametime I didn't have alot on this new drive to worry about.

Also I can't boot into safemode in either os

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Paitently waiting,
    Jamie

    Hi Jamie,
Suspect you got hit by something while online that wiped out your OSs. You will probably have to run fdisk, delete all partitions, remake them (to clean your HDD) and reinstall the OSs. I've had a similar problem twice in the past year.

Or you can wait to see if anyone else has a better idea.

    thanks Sparrow,

I was hoping to do that as a last resort, but I happen to find a floppy that was able to let me on the w2k partition. I am going to see if I am able to copy that one file to the system. NTFS.SYS the one it said is missing or corrupt. Well I don't see it there. So I'll see what I can do. Let you know what happens.

    Hope you're right! :)

I judged that the "ACPI BIOS" message is spurious - you hadn't seen it before, and nothing you described doing should have affected your BIOS.

Good luck, and please report back your solution.

well as far as trying to copy the file. I was having success until it told me access was denied. So I tried using the attrib command to remove the attributes, but then it told me access was denied. I wonder if it is because of the ntfs filing system or the fact that I need to sign on to that drive, but don't kow how to do that in dos.

    Any suggestions??

DOS can't see ntfs. I always use FAT32 for that reason. I have only one ntfs partition of 16GB, and it's NOT the system partition.
You can try a repair from your w2k CD, but I can't help you there.

Well I already tried the repair, and I keep getting that message right after the last disk loads, right before it goes to look at the cd. BIOS problem. Stops dead in it's tracks.

I also have this w2k plugin disk that allows you to see w2k ntfs file system in dos. I can't remember where or when I got it. once it loads your able to view the partition that it is on.

Well If I don't hear anything within the next hour or so, I think I am going to do what I didn't want to.

I had 98 and something else ( OSR 2 or something ) dual booting ( a long time ago ) and I had a power dip just as I was shutting one of them down.

    NOTHING would boot after that.

If I recall correctly ( which may be questionable ) if one system does not shut down properly none of them may boot properly again.

You know now that I think of it. When I was using that mbm after I rebooted, all of the sudden it slid over to one side. I was like what the hell. It just up and moved it self over, and that was the last time I was able to reboot. Hard to say what happened. Maybe a ghost or something. Oh well, I think I am going to just reinstall everything, I don't have to patients to wait any longer.

You know I have used that mbm before on my other drive without any problems, and I just remembered, it up dated when I was setting it up this time around. I just wonder if there was something in the update that caused it. Oh well, better luck next time. I'll keep you up to date.
