    Hi
I got on the computer this morning and have the notice that updates are ready to install, so I guess the sp2 update has finally completed downloading. I also have the CD of SP2 and I was really waiting awhile before installing the sp2 to make sure some of the bugs are out of it. The question I have will the little update globe stay on my computer until I decide to install the updates which may not be for a few weeks? Is it better to use the autoupdate download or use the cd I received?
    Thanks
    Shirl

Doubt it unless you have Windows Update set to download and install later. Clicking on the icon should tell you the status.

Right click on My Computer icon > Properties - is SP 2 shown on the General tab under System - if not it is not installed.

Right click(?) on the globe and decline the update - that should get rid of the icon.

IMO use the CD as and when you want to update to SP 2 - it is cumulative from XP thru' SP 1 to SP 2.

    Hi Pete
Yes I do have the update to install and notify me when downloads are ready. That's the globe I have now. It says updates are ready for download. I clicked on it just see what the download was and it was the sp2 updates so I cancelled it and I'll just install it from the cd when I'm ready. I guess the globe won't go away. With the new updater Microsoft has it doesn't give you the option to "remind me later ", "install" or "cancel ". Maybe I selected the wrong option I chose the "express install" there was another one called "custome install" Express Install gives you the option to install or you can cancel it. No remind me later. Oh well I'll install the cd at some point. I'm just waiting because I'm going to have to figure out a whole bunch of new things going on with the safety, pop up blockers etc.
    Thanks
    Shirl
