Upon shutting down my pc (WIN98) the other day, Norton Crashguard caught a crash caused by OE6. I chose to shut down the program, which was supposed to be the safest route. When I booted up the pc next day, checked email and sent some to saved folders, I found that all my saved folders were missing.

Have I just lost them or is there some trick to retrieve them? Some I really needed and didn't have copied on paper yet.

Have tried scanreg/restore and it will not go back past 9/1/04. Actually, I tried to go back to 9/1/04 since I am not certain whether the crash occurred that day or the day before and got the message "restore failed ".

Any chance or are they lost to cyberspace?

    Hi T&S!

Where were those "saved folders" created?

If in Outlook Express, as a separate or sub folder to the inbox:

In Windows Explorer, do a search for *.dbx. There should be one *.dbx file for each folder within OE.

If the folders are there, OE has lost track of them. I would try this:

With OE closed, move the existing folders to a different location.

In OE, recreate the folders and close OE.

In WE, find the new *.dbx files, delete them and put the old ones back.

Open OE to see if it worked. I hope so since my backup strategy is to copy the contents of the E-mail storage to a backup folder, enabling me to copy them back if the need should arise. Have not had the need yet, though.

If you can locate the *.dbx folders but cannot persuade OE to open them try Dbxtract
