I have a ScreenSaver Switch with four little boxes that sit down in the lower right corner of the screen. it has been on here since the days of Win95. And has been carried over from OS to OS.

    Boxes are

    X for shutdown ( one click )
Next bos has a wrench in it for adjusting screensavers
Next box has a Moniter in it for enabling/disabling SS
Last box has a big S in it for activating SS.

Now that I think of it I will see if it is still avaiable.

    I keep the following two shortcuts in my Quick Launch area, the first one for reboot and the other for complete shutdown;

    %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -r -t 00 -f

    %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 00

BTW, all the available switches for the command can be viewed by typing shutdown /? in a command line.

    Such as:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>shutdown /?
    Usage: shutdown [-i | -l | -s | -r | -a] [-f] [-m \\computername] [-t xx] [-c "comment"] [
    -d up:xx:yy]

No args Display this message (same as -?)
-i Display GUI interface, must be the first option
-l Log off (cannot be used with -m option)
    -s Shutdown the computer
-r Shutdown and restart the computer
    -a Abort a system shutdown
    -m \\computername Remote computer to shutdown/restart/abort
-t xx Set timeout for shutdown to xx seconds
-c "comment" Shutdown comment (maximum of 127 characters)
-f Forces running applications to close without warning
-d [p]:xx:yy The reason code for the shutdown
    u is the user code
p is a planned shutdown code
xx is the major reason code (positive integer less than 256)
yy is the minor reason code (positive integer less than 65536)

The "off" power switch on the case works just fine. It'll close everything and then shutdown. No problems.

I use the same method as surferdude2 using the shutdown.exe shortcuts. I also added to my shutdown shortcuts a "Lock Worksation" shortcut...

    %windir%\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

I keep all 3 grouped together for quick access. I even have used some native WinXP icons for the commands. I use the icons from => "%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll ".
