Netork Problems

So I resently got my own computer and hooked it to our main computer. I have ICS(internet connection sharing) working. We have zone alarm intalled on the main computer(*****) so i the file and printer sharing works when its shut down. But my problem is this. I can't play any online games. I know I can't host because im on a network but i cant even connectto other players. So i thought maybe it will work on the main computer. but still i couldnt. Evenwhen the firewall is shut down I can't. This is really bugging me. SOME ONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!!!!

Well I don't think anyone could give you a solution to your problem at this time since there's nothing much to troubleshoot. We need some more info about your system (how is it connected to the net, OS, etc).

As I understand the problem is in your main computer and that has nothing to do with the ICS (for now).

Zone Alarm could be the problem, but anyways it isn't a good idea to have it on while playing: makes connection much slower, and might cause a crash. As for the file and printer sharing, to be able to access the shares with ZA running, you can simply add your internal computer's ip to its Trusted Networks (somewhere in the options of ZA).

Also does this happen with one game or every game that you have? Can you run icq, msn or any online chat? Or overall can you get a Direct Connection with another person over the internet?

Well I haven't Tried any other games. But I have icq and msn. I can connect to other peoples ftp in mirc and from a browser my computer and the main one. We are connected by a cable modem and are presently running on windows 98. Like I said I cant even do it without ZA running so I dont know about lagging.

 

Which game are we talking about then?
