My Netscape 7.1 Email account recently got deleted. I tried just creating a new one using the exact same information, but all my messages in the Inbox, Sent, and Trash are gone. Is there a way to get them back. I have tried pretty much everything like changing the directory to what i thought it may be in Windows Explorer. By creating the new account did I override my previous account. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Forum, marytrickler!

    Hi Mary,

If you can see your messages on the HD, then all is well. You don't say what your OS is, so in order to see the correct path for your Mail Account folder see: Profiles Folder Location. As an example, let's use Windows XP to see where your Mail Account folder is located.

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt\Mail\pop.yourisp.net

    You probably have two listings:
    pop.yourisp.net
    pop.yourisp-1.net

Open the pop.yourisp.net folder, and then open the Inbox file.
Are your messages there? If so, go to the top of the Windows Explorer Window, and copy the "Address" that is listed

Close Windows Explorer and open Netscape.
    Open Mail & Newsgroups
Now click on: Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Server Settings
Scroll down to the "Local directory" field
Paste in the "Address" you just copied in Windows Explorer, which should be:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt\Mail\pop.yourisp.net

If that is the folder which contains your mail.

Post back with any further questions.

    Ramona

    Mary,

Are you opening the Inbox file, without the MSF extension? Are you seeing something like this:

    x9wuO5KisiFapDsEk7h9UGkNgqG5aUqthLODX
    jZlaolLXU+13Ei8ljbzWmefdy1fIRfuOxLcOLOjViz3tyvIQ
    r7e2WVEJpSXVwl5PguYsPtV0ONOWcqLPJnNi4Nywp4
    eexo2dzL8dvoskrQfWJf1loMqhavXxFJ1F1RlxydjPlqJxV

Those are attachments, and yes it is unreadable. But you should also see this:
    From - Mon Aug 30 18:46:28 2004
    X-UIDL: <4133B535.7090303@mchsi.com>
    X-Mozilla-Status: 0013
    X-Mozilla-Status2: 00000000
    Return-Path: <jane@isp.com>

This should give you the date of your message.

Did you find two folders for your ISP, in the Mail Folder similar to:
    pop.yourisp.net
    pop.yourisp-1.net ??

If so, then the folder without the -1 contains your mail. I need to know this, in order to help.

    Ramona

    Inbox File

I did find the mail.myisp.com and the -1. I have two Inbox files in each one. One of the files does have a .msf extension and the other doesnt. The one with the .msf is garbled and does not have any dates or sender information. The other one has nothing in it, so i am just going to assume that the messages are gone. I appreciate your help, but i think this might be a lost cause because i can't find anything related to a message in the either of the locations or files.
    Thanks so much

    Mary,
ignore the .msf files. They can be deleted if there is a problem. You want to hang on the files with no extention. You want to see how large the files with no extention are (single left click should show date and size). The folder with -1 would be the most recent, so you want to copy/paste the Inbox from the older folder, if it looks large enough, it should also show the messages. But, you should rename first the older files (right click on Inbox, etc. but one at a time, and Copy, then right and Paste in an empty area of the old folder. Then right click and rename to anything you want). You should have two identical copies of each file, but one set will have a different name. Finally, right click and Copy the newly renamed file, and then open the -1 folder, and right click|Paste in an empty area. You will repeat the same operation for the Sent folder.
I see that while I was taking my time, there have been replies, so I stop.
