    Hello,

I have a compaq laptop (modell Evo N600c) that is completly dead.

When I connect the power-adapter to the laptop and try to start it nothing happens. None of the four led's at the front of the computer are on. I've tryed two different power-adapter and both of them have the same result. I've also tryed removing the laptop's battery and just using the power-adapter but that didnt help either.

The laptop is about four years old so the warranty has run out.

What are my options beside sending it to compaq service station which I probably cant afford ?

I was thinking, probably highly unlikly, but maybe a fuse in the laptops powersupply has gone bust ? I do have some expereince with electronic equipment but I've very sceptical of opening up a laptop. Any advice ?

Could replacing the laptop's battery help?

    Anything else ?

    Thanks for any help.

Every chance that the battery is dead and open circuit. Rather than replace it have it checked out - 4 years is a good life for a battery I think.

If you've got a multimeter, you can easlily check the charge state of the battery. Usually provided it's within a volt or two of the rated output under load it should be OK.
The volyage of the battery may have dropped to low that the charger is unable to charge it. In this situation a you can sometimes "kickstart" a battery with an external powersupply set a bit higher than the recommended charge voltage/curent settings.

Thanks for the feed-back. Will have a look at the battery tomorrow and report back here.

Just take the battery compleetly out and see if it comes on. That will tell you if it's the battery. It will function with the battery out if thats the problem.
