    Hello,
Downloaded SP2 for my XP-Pro (about 95Mbs) with no problems and it seemed to install OK. Then came the reboot and - dreaded BSOD.
I have tried booting Safe, Safe with Command Prompt, Last Known good config and Normal, all to no avail.
When booting in the Safe modes it runs through the files its loading and always stops at "windows/system32/drivers/agp440.sys" then after about a two second pause - BSOD.
The BSOD comes up with IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and after the usual verbiage gives the technical information as follows:
    ***STOP:(0x00000016, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804E4C2A)

I would be most grateful for any suggestions as to my next move. Just getting into the computer in any mode would be nice!
    Regards
    Rick

    Rick,
A couple of things I've found...

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324764

Also read to disconnect any USB device(s) as well?

    Another possibe I found... Quote.

I tried the solution posted at Microsoft's site, and that didnt work. However the agp440.sys problem disappeared when I did the follwing.
    a. booted it with the "windows reinstalltion (sic) cd ",
    b. ran it in recovery mode (choose option R in the windows recovery console)
    c. and ran "chkdsk /r"
    d. Type "exit" and restarted Windows normally. Now it works fine.

Thanks for that info Paul, I will give it a try later this evening or tomorrow. 'Course the Toshiba didn't come with just an XP disc - its all integrated into the operating system, four discs worth. I've never had to use them before so it will be an interesting experience - one of them should offer me a recovery option I reckon.
Thanks again (and why didn't I think to go to the microsoft site and punch in the search - Duh!!)
    Cheers
    Rick

Actually I just used Google. :D

I remember from an earlier post of yours about the recovery disks and slipstreaming. Not sure if you can access the recovery console with them. I'd guess no you couldn't.
Hope you fix it because a reimage with those disks will set you back a ways. ;)

I recently bought an external Maxtor USB2 drive where I've backed up the Toshiba using Acronis True Image 8.0. This way I have the original Ghost images that I shouldn't need to use, but can do a full Acronis backup every month or two, which means not much updating if I have to restore.

    Hi Paul,
You are right. I couldn't get into the recovery console. When I tried booting off the recovery disc (#1) it all hummed promisingly, then went quiet and no further activity. I will take it back to the vendor and see what they can do. I did a Norton Ghost back up prior to downloading SP2 and I always keep my data backed up so its never more than a few days old, so it won't be a complete disaster - just really annoying and time consuming.
    Regards
    Rick

    Paul,
Just to let you know the outcome. Dropped computer into our IT people to have a look at - friends in the right place and we use the same model. To my amazement (and some consternation) the blasted thing booted up straight off, installed SP2 all the way, thank you for using Toshiba and will there be anything else?!!!! The Agp440.sys problem seems to have simply disappeared after a few days of sulking with no power! Did crash to BSOD on a few restarts and we narrowed that to the optical mouse I use. Have installed update and apart from some minor glitches as I have tried each of my programmes, things seem to now be going Ok. My hard disc use though, has gone from 1/3 to 1/2 of my 30Gbs. I think I will have to move all of these updates (SP1 etc SP2) onto a CD to recover some space.
Cheers and thanks again for your help.
    Rick

    Hello Rick,

The $NtUninstall files take up tremndous amounts of space - the one for the SP on my system uses 366 MB's.

    Burn out and delete http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=34612
