I am looking to convert my VCR tapes into a digital format to then will create DVDs. With all of the products out there, I am overwhelmed. I don't need any DVD creation software and only need the video capture device. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated. (Windows XP SP2) Thanks in advance!

I think all you need are proper connecting cables from the VCR to your computer. There are PCI cards and some AGP cards that have the inputs you need. The DVD writer in your computer (and its software) is all you need to go digital. Suggest you check out catalogs at JDR and Newegg. JDR has excellent free phone support toll free.

    Dazzle?

Anyone have any recommendations as far as the hardware goes, though. I am looking at a Pinnacle Dazzle DVC 80 Digital Video Creator unit because it's a nice price but had read one review that says it doesn't produce good results.

sparrow, might be able to help you out for a change :) . From my understanding a standard video card has connections that are all outputs. If you want to record video "in ", you need a "VIVO" card (video in, video out). I wanted one when I bought this card, but they were out of stock so I got a standard and will put in a PCI card when I need it. If IceWine might be considering a video card upgrade, then getting VIVO video card would do the recording job as well.

For video capture, my hardware magazine recommends a V-Gear DV Pro (if it is available where you are).
