When I try to install software im getting an error that says 'Files did not properly self-register' and it lists the file names. I have tried to install another program and im getting the same error. I have tried the same programs on another computer and they work fine. I am logged in with admin rights. Any ideas ??

    Thanks

Joey--Since you are in a hurry, here is a comment with little experience to back it up.
Normally to register a .dll or .ocx file you would do Start|Run|type regsvr32 xxx.dll|OK. So you can try that since you have the file names involved. You should get a window telling you each time whether that was successful.
However, a bigger issue in my mind is why installation of these programs is not doing this for you. Was the downloaded program setup file corrupt? Did you have other programs, especially antivirus, running at the time of installation? Or? I have no ideas on that.

Jim, thanks for replying. I tried to manually register the file but it says it failed with an error code. I also disabled my antivirus, spyware, etc software and it still failed. I tried the same file on my sons computer ( which has the same setup as mine) and it registered fine.

Joey--Sorry to hear the bad news. Perhaps if you post the error message someone can help. Also what are the downloads and what site are you getting them from?
I am really not looking for answers to the following, but rather am throwing out ideas.
Is the problem with all downloaded programs? Have you tried a reboot? Have you tried a System Restore to a day when downloads installed OK?
Have you installed any new hard/software just before the problem started? You could also try Start|Run|type sfc /scannow|OK.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable will soon be along. :)

Jim..I tried sfc /scannow but still the same error. A few days ago I downloaded a popup stopper offered by my isp. This is when the error first happened. I figured there was something wrong with the program so I didnt bother with it anymore. Yesterday I tried to install a dvd burning program and the problem happened again, this is when I figured there is something wrong with my system. The popup program works fine on another computer.

Suspect you're infested with malware. Check out the spyware forum, especially the stickies at the top.

    Joey--
    1) Disable the popup stopper, redownload the applications and see what happens
    2) Are all those malware programs up to date with latest reference files, virus definitions, etc.?

    Hrm.. i think i see a problem.

You should be typing this exactly (note the quotes)

    regsvr32 "c:\program files\bellsouth internet tools\blspc.dll "

Try this and report back when it throws the error.

Error code: (HRESULT) 0x80040154 (2147746132) - Class not registered

Just guessing at the cause here, but looks like they have a dependency on another class to be registered before that one. Did you do them in order? Did you do regsvr32 to the entire list, and then go back through?
