Installed SP2 from the CD everything worked well, with one exception: About two minutes after having the machine running the mouse starting creeping, vert. or horiz. Contacted MS support chat line. Chatted with three people, one suggested upgrading the mouse driver (which did not help), another referred me to his supervisor. The supervisor suggested I remove anything connected to my USB port - go to Dev. Mgr. and delete everything listed under USB. (The only thing connected to the USB is my scanner, the mouse is an intellimouse PS/2).

Finally, in frustration, I uninstalled SP2, the mouse is now stable. The oddity; I had read many negatives others were having with OE and several other programs - mine was almost trouble-free. Except for the moving mouse pointer.

Trident: How did you uninstall SP2?-My son downloaded it and is having problems. As a last resort, if I have to get rid of it, how did you do it?

Typically you would remove Windows update through the Add & Remove Programs found in the Control Panel and then restore your system from the restore created before the Windows update. I guess SP2 would work the same way.

A news article from a newletter I get...

I installed sp2 on both of my computers. No problem with my notebook, but the installation on my desktop computer caused IE6 to become very slow. I got rid of sp2 and re-installed it, with the same problem. I have run a repair/install of IE6, with no relief. I have also run HiJack This and removed suspect items. Nothing helps. I got through to a top-tier Microsoft tech, who first suggested I run XP repair, then suggested I reinstall Windows instead. I have done neither. IE6 works fine without sp2.

    Any ideas?

Cafeslave, I don't have any suggestion about your IE problems, but I started using Mozilla Firefox as my browser and it's great. Takes a little bit of work to get it set up, but it's well worth it after you get it going. You can download from here:

I already use Firefox (and I have a problem with it, too, but it's a small one), so I'm browsing okay, but I'd really like to have IE capability, too.

    Very true

Firefox have limited features...it loads fast on some webpages like this.
However IE6 has all standard features,
We will have to download plugins in order to load some unviewable items on Firefox..however IE works well since it already have plugins installed in it.

Well actually SP2 comes with alot of complications as well,it DOES slow down the computer(Correct me if I'm wrong-For slow PCs perhaps?)
..and irritating pop-ups come from it when it prompts you about your firewall and antivirus settings..especially when you disable all of it.
But if you use DSL or T1 connection..it shouldn't be a problem.
    I use AVG too..its cool..goodbye Symantec...

IT doesn't work well for P2P softwares like Kazaa,Ares and so on since it blocks all available connections-proxy blocker?
So for those who wish to use those P2P sofwares,I suggest uninstalling SP2 and use SP1 instead...

I know it limits all proxy stuff to secure holes in order hackers won't be able to hack in the computer.
