To the guys and gals out there:

    Need your help or advice.

I purchased a HP Pavillion t648D (the model may differ in N. America) with
Windows XP Home edition pre-installed about 3 weeks ago. I needed a new PC to browse the web after my older PIII and my wife's laptop crashed on me (I can only correlate the demise of the PC and laptop to surfing the
internet). Anyways, I have my web browser point to Yahoo.com as my home
    page.

In the first couple of weeks, whenever I log into my service provider, I
go straight into Yahoo.com. Everything was just hunk dory. Lately, when I
log into my service provider, it seems to take eons to load Yahoo's page. For your information, the status bar tells me that Yahoo.com is loading. That would be fine if it actually did load Yahoo.com but I get an error
message telling me that the page cannot be displayed. However, when I click on the "Home" button thereafter, lo and behold I am Yahoo.com. Why is that so?

Next issue. I download a jpeg image from a website and try saving it, the save as dialogue box in IE will only allow me to save the image as a bitmap image. The odd thing is that if I key ".jpg" as an extension to the name of that file, IE saves it accordingly. Again, no such issues before. What can I do to correct this?

Some of you might ask if I made any changes to the settings. I am very certain that I did not consciously do so.

Any advice/feedback would be greatly apprecoated.

    Thanks

Hi Thebatangman and welcome to the forum.

Lets deal with the more serious of the issues first. Your yahoo.com problem sounds like it is almost certainly spyware related. Take a look at Post #3 and do what is suggested there.

I'll move this from IE/OE to Security now since we try to keep all Hijackthis logs in that part of the forum.

    Hey Newt,

I downloaded Ad Aware last night and copied its latest definition file: SE 1R6 30.08.2004. Ran a scan and found about 30 "objects" which I quarantined. However, I am still encountering the delayed connection (and non connection) to my Homepage. Is there any additional information I can provide to assist here?

BTW, I managed to resolve my issue regarding saving Jpegs as Jpegs. All it needed was deleting my temporary internet files.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Thanksa dn regards
