I told my Internet Provider about the following and they said it was an XP cache problem.

    OK... here is the thing:

I have several affiliates and they all updated their pages recently with my logo and one even gave me a cute doll. When I visit the site from work on Win97, I can see everything. When I visit the very same site at home with WinXP, I seem to be viewing the old page version or at least not seeing the new icons. The same page put up a set update and I can see that... but not my logo or doll.

Sample: http://pamncrick.angeltowns.net/ On the far right is supposed to be the SimartShop logo and another new one... but all I see is 3 logos, Yahoo, Mere's, and Lofty, yet the Aug. 23rd update is there.

Sample 2: http://lamb41163.tripod.com/ Lori has added two dolls to the bottom of this page and I see it at work but not here at home.
What could be my problem????? How can I fix it? Do you think it is an XP cache problem or something else?

Try manually refreshing the page. Either click the refresh icon on the browser toolbar or easier yet, hit the f5 key.

That doesn't work, neither does deleting files in the temp folders.

Then it must be a resolution difference between the machines in question. Make sure they all are set to resolve the page as it was created.

Try hitting the f11 key to resolve the page properly.

Yikes it didn't work... but how do I get my screen back to the way it was? .

I can tell you this, the resolution at work is very big. Everything is huge and does't all fit on one screen. I hate it but when I try to reduce it, it snaps right back so I just leave it since it is only used for network stuff. But at home my resolution is set at 800 x 600.

I saw both pages just fine with my comp. Both pages have animations and scripts, and the second one even has music. I would guess maybe your home browser is set more securely than the one at work? I also noticed the second link was in a restricted zone. (The only ones on my comp were put there by Spybot- I'm recovering from an XP disaster.)

BTW, nice work. I enjoy quilting and sewing, and have done some miniature work, too.

Not to worry, hit f11 again and it will toggle back.

FWIW, I see the first site you posted down to the seventh link. That would be the Mere Folly link. All below that is obscured. When I hit f11, the other links are revealed, the final one being the Yahoo link. Beneath it is the solicitation to join Pambers Warehouse.

On the second site you posted, I see everything I think. The bottom of the page shows Lauranne and Barbie with links below them. f11 makes no difference there.

    I also run 800 x 600 as a standard.

clicking on F11 does not toggle it back. :(

What I can't see on those sites is on the first one my Simart shop logo (its red) and on the second one I can't see the dolls at the bottom Lauranne and Barbee.

I'm also an affiliate on http://www.centerstagesims.net/index2.php and I can't see that one either.

Then click View on your toolbar and then click Full Screen to deselect it.

    Hi BarbeeGee and welcome.

First off, when your ISP tech support person mentioned it being a 'cache problem with XP' I'd bet on that being just babble from someone who really didn't have a clue.

Just to make sure I'm clear on the problem here:
    - You are running XP at home. Home or Pro version?
    - What service pack are you running?
    - I notice the note on http://pamncrick.angeltowns.net/ about a change in layout recently. Were you OK before that?
    - In the piece of the page shown below, is your red Simart Shop the only one you aren't seeing or are they all blank?

I see Lofty, Yahoo and Mere's Folly only.

I did not have a problem before she added those logos.

I am running XP home and I don't think I have a service pack

    BarbeeGee,
    In a word, no.

Web pages are writen in HTML (HyperText Markup Language), a computer programming language that tells a browser what to dispay on your screen when you download a page from a website.

Different browsers (there are around 80 available) interpret HTML differently, depending on what they are programmed to do for each 'command' in HTML. You are using different browsers at home and at the office, and that's why the page looks different at each site.

To see more of this, try several different browsers and see the differences.

Maybe I should say different versions of a browser. Even IE may work differently in different versions of windows too, but I don't know.

Where do you think I should go from here? It really bothers me that my computer is not viewing things properly and that I may be missing things on sites. Cache problem? Resolution problem? IE problem or XP problem?

Thanks for all your attempts at solving my problem... you all spent a lot of time trying to help and I appreciate it.

To the person I thought was being too technical in his explanation: I think, now that I've posted a few times, that the problem was with me not you. All the initials sort of made it sound much more technical than it was. This is my first time on the board. I understand what you wrote perfectly now that I know was AU, OS etc. all mean. Thanks!

    Your welcome Barbee.

I did answer your question about where to find out whether you have Service Pack 2 or not.

    Regards - Charles

One other thing bothers me. If it were just a difference in type of browser or the way the update was done on the different pages, wouldn't I have noticed this problem before now? That's what makes me lean toward a problem with IE, or XP or the one of my settings.

Have you tried CONTROL-F5 yet? This is a forced refresh rather than f5 which is a normal refresh.
Have you tried clearing your cache (tools-options-general-delete files)?
Do you have a proxy server? Does your ISP do upstream caching?

If you download the iis resource kit and use tinyget or wfetch on that frame, do you see the correct markup?
