Hey folks.. here's one to scratch your head on.

I recently went to help a friend troubleshoot his ISP Problem. He has MSN and AOL on his laptop. The msn worked fine.... the aol did not. In fact, the aol could not detect the modem and when i tried to install one, the system would reboot. I uninstalled AOL, rebooted and reinstalled... same problem.

I ran a diagnostic on the modem and it showed "no-dialtone ".

I put in a new modem... same problem... MSN worked fine... AOL did not.

    Any ideas?

    thanks
    Dave

This is a new one to me. I believe MSN's last version of dialup software before the MSN Explorer stuff was 5.6. As I recall, version 5.7 and beyond is MSN Explorer based. I assume you are familiar with the DUN changes/problems associated with AOL, however, I've not heard the same (converse) re:MSN disabling others. Sorry I can't offer help to you, but I will be curious to follow this thread and am also interested in knowing what version of MSN software your friend is running. My best guidance would be to trash AOL anyway. Your friend should be able to access the AOL System through MSN dialup as long as he has a registered account there. Good Luck...
    ;)

    msn & aol follow-up

Connecting to AOL thru MSN is working ok. but the problem that I didn't add on was: AOL offers a 1-800 number incase you are away from an area not covered.... where MSN does not offer this feature. I will continue to work on this and keep everyone posted... as I'm sure I'm not the only Techie:eek: in town that's faced this delimma.

Thanks again and I look forward to more posts and reads.
