JohnR - Welcome to the Board :)

It's a bit early for solutions to that problem to surface with the full release of SP 2 less than a week ago, even though MS published that KB article before the release date.

Tho only suggestion I can make at the moment is Tools > Folder Options > View > Apply to all Folders.

Thank you for the welcome, PeteC. :)

Unfortunately, I have tried the 'Tools > Folder Options > View > Apply to all Folders' several times. It doesn't seem to stick.
Even changing folders, the status bar resets back to hidden. :(

It's not a big thing, just a minor inconvenience for me.

I'm sure this question will be brought back up as more people upgrade to SP2.

Since the MSKB hints that IE & WE status bars are so closely intertwined, try toggling the setting in IE- shoot, if you have time, put a reboot in there, and see if that jostles it back into behaving. I saw a similar issue with a pre SP1 XP, and the toggle did the trick.

I'd go nuts without the status bar!

    Description
After the installation of SP2, users have noted that their status bar in explorer is not longer visable. This is how to correct it.

    Directions
I want every window to have a status bar. (You know, that little bar at the bottom of windows that gives you information and such.)

SP2 to changes the defaults to show status bar when browsing on the internet, but to turn it off when browsing locally. People typically notice this after opening explorer for the first time after updating to SP2.

    Here's the quick fix:
    1. Click Start
    2. Click My Computer
    3. Click the View Menu
    4. Click Status Bar

If your status bar is enabled, there should be a check mark beside it in the View menu. This should change the status bar to make it enabled for all local folders.

Wish it was that simple Rockit.

I have tried that back and forth. I have tried 'Apply to All Folders' and 'Reset All Folders'. I have tried unchecking the status bar for Internet Explorer back and forth again. Nothing works.

I recently found out that it does remain visible on other user accounts though. So apparently, something in my main account is messed up.

I am trying to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile. But I am having a little trouble with that right now.

The 'C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.*' files are in use and will not copy.
And the files in HKCU/Run are not there. (In the new account)

I have tried a 3rd user account, but the UsrClass.* and HKCU is still a problem.

Other than that, seems like a perfect copy.

    Rockit,
SP2 didn't change my status bar in WE at all. It shows every time I open WE, and it is ticked in "View ", as you described.

    Johanna and JohnR,
The fix doesn't work for me either now that I'm home and able to try a few different things. My status bar won't stay on even when I switch folders it hides. I'll keep lookin for a cure.

    John,
Thanks for the lead. I also created a new user account and found that the status bar is now working fine. I wish we could just do a registry tweak to get it back but it looks like the new user account is the fix for now.

    Good Luck
