    OK, all you Norton fans.

I just got finished installing Windows XP Service Pack 2.
    (Now that's a lenghty process !)

So, I get this message saying:
    "Norton says it is installed.
But the Status is unknown ".

We do all the recommended things.

Norton is up to date. Just finished a new scan. No problems.

Yet when we open the Security Center we get the message about Norton Status being unknown.

Now, I'm not sure I know what "Status" is.

Can anyone suggest how we can get it "Known" since Windows does not like it to be "Unknown" ?

Symantec somehow failed to 'fix' that before the release of SP2 even though it was reported to them at least as recently as the RC1 release so some months ago.

Reportedly they are working on it now though.

    Norton won't do it !

OK, Norton has realeased a fix.

But it won't do me no good.

    They only fixed 2004.

How about us faithful Norton users who keep subscribing.
My CD is 2002 and we suscribe and pay .

Now they claim that they will no longer support It.

So, to xxx with Norton - we ain't gonna buy them no more.

Others may be the same way - but Norton ain't gonna get my money !!

    Guess that ends this thread.

    Thanks

    Hello jbarker,

I run 2002 and the "fix" will come later for rest - that's one point.

"fix" is misleading: thru the combination of SP2's Security Center and Norton, this is a failure to recognize that NAV2002 is present on the system. This does NOT mean 2002 isn't working or that if you've kept it updated that it's not current.

I don't need the security center to tell me whether NAV is working or not. Neither do you.

I disabled the security center tray icon along with the balloon annoyance - this does not mean it's not working. Can be accessed thru the Control Panel if you want to see the messages :)

    Regards - Charles

Security Center and NAV Status Message

I just installed SP2 and had the same message about NAV status. Attempted to use NAV LiveUpdate to download the "fix patch" and received message "attempt to update failed due to internal error with error message LU1803 ...etc ". Used the following link from Norton website to correct the problem ...

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...ws 2000/Me/98/XP&src=sg&pcode=nav&svy=&csm=no

Am running a copy of 2003 NAV which has been upgraded to 2004, version 10.0.1.13.

Security Center now shows that Norton has been updated and the small Security Center icon has disappeared from the system tray. Hope this helps and thanks to the forum for alerting me to the Norton "fix patch ".
