I found a virus yesterday using my AVG it was the trojan horse downloader.k I ran spy bot and adware then Avg again and it said it was healed. However is said unable to test Windows system volume. I ran virus scan later in the day and again before going to bed. No virus! This morning when I turned on computer had a message saying Trojanhorse downloader.keenal.k c:\system volume\information\_restore then a ton of #'s . It told me to run AVG again so I did but it said no viurs found. Reading information on this one place said to turn off system restore and reboot then turn it back on and reboot again. By the way I am using windows xp home edition. I am afraid to do this as I will never have a restore point correct? Another place told me to go to control panal under folder option and uncheck hide file ext and hide and protect operating system. then to run safe mode do search and delete file. However when i started to uncheck those it said not safe. Can someone please help me??? thanks soooo much!

You are correct. If you disable system restore, you will lose ALL restore points, but you don't want them anyway. They are infected! Disable and reboot, then re-enable. It will create a new restore point then.

    Thanks for the help!!

I have been dealing with this same problem for the past two days...trojan horse virus showed up on AVG, sent to virus vault, but window kept popping up telling me I still had virus...ran SpyBot, Adware, CWShredder, all to no avail, and AVG kept saying I was clean, but message kept popping up! After searching the good ole BBS, I followed the system restore off/on thingy suggested here, and seem to have no more trojan! YAY! (So far, anyway!) Thanks, guys, once again!
