I have the ME cd in the drawer after upgrading the desktop to XP Home. My laptop isn't fast enough for XP, so it's running Win98SE. I was told by a couple of friends not to install ME, that I was better off staying with 98SE; that ME was "quirky" or similar description. Thought I would post here for some comments by ME users.

Thanks for any comments. I did a search on ME vs 98 but didn't see much.

Don't know what they mean by 'quirky', but I found ME to be a little more stable than 98 and I think it handles resources a little better. It might be just a tad slower, but I like it better than 98.

Don't get near as many win explorer errors, etc.

How do you like xp?? I've been very reluctant to switch.

My experience with XP Home has been great. If my laptop met the minimum requirements I wouldn't hesitate to install it.

    I agree with your Friends.

If you already have 98SE installed and working I WOULD NOT change it.

I upgraded from 98SE to XP pro and for my use I see no ( or very little ) difference.

But the problem is ( or will be in the near future ) that most new hardware and software ( and also security wise ), XP will be required.

But SE vs ME. Stick with SE.

    Hello Bill,

A consideration is System Restore. ME has it. Having XP, you know what that is. If important to you, than switch, if not, stick w/ 98.

If you go w/ ME, try to avoid upgrading if possible, greater possibility of problems - opt for a clean install.

    Regards - Charles

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Since 98SE is not causing any problems, I think I'll adhere to the adage: "If it ain't broke.......... "

I would hardly call Win ME an "upgrade" over Win98. It's a good decision you've made to stick with Win98. That POS system restore is a major resource hog and I couldn't get that sh*tty OS off my HDD fast enough.
